Swedish Massage

swedish massage

Swedish massage is the most commonly practiced massage. If you have never had a massage, Swedish massage will be a good way to get acquainted with me and my service. I am a licensed massage therapist and I have over 5 years of experience. I also provide deep tissue, sports massage, hot stone massage, and craniosacral therapy.

Swedish massage is based on anatomy and physiology, as opposed to energy work or meridians that are used in Asian massage practices. I offer one hour, 90 minute, or 2 hour massage sessions. Swedish massage can be slow and gentle, or vigorous and deep, depending on what you would like to achieve. I can adjust the depth of the massage to your preference.

In a Swedish massage I will use hot oil or lotion to lubricate the skin. I apply strokes with my hands that warm up the muscle tissue, releasing tension and gradually breaking up adhesions, which are also referred to as knots. Swedish massage promotes relaxation, as well as other health benefits.

I will ask you about any injuries or conditions that I need to know about. I will provide you with a form to fill out that will tell me everything I need to know. Knowing about your body and your daily activities will enable me to provide an effective, relaxing, and therapeutic experience. You can fill out this form when you get to my studio or fill it out before you come using this form.

After the consultation, you may get on the table–face up or face down, and underneath the sheet or towel. I will return when you let me know that you are ready.

During a Swedish massage you are generally naked underneath a towel or sheet. I will uncovers only the part of the body I am working on, a technique called draping.

You usually start by laying face down with your head in a u-shaped face cradle so your spine stays neutral. Unless you have a preference, I will start on your back and continue around the table until I have massaged your back, legs, feet, arms, hands and neck.

When I am finished with the back, I will work the back of each leg. When done with the back side, I will hold the sheet over your body while you turn over onto your back and scoot down. Then, I will massage the front of each leg, both arms, and generally finishes with your neck and shoulders.

If you only have 1 hour, you can also ask me to spend more time on a certain area. If the pressure is too light or too firm, please speak up and ask the me to adjust it. Swedish massage usually includes some deeper work on areas of specific muscle tension, but if you truly want deeper, more intensive work and firmer pressure, book a deep tissue massage.

The cost of a Swedish massage is $80/hour, $120 for 90 minutes and so on. Other services such as sports massage, hot stone massage and craniosacral therapy can be added for an additional $25, adding 15 minutes to the total time.
